On the evening of July 6, 2019, 47-year-old Carl Sanford Gardner was fatally shot in a drive-by incident outside a motorcycle club in Birmingham's Ensley neighborhood. The shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. in the 1700 block of Avenue D, where Gardner was among a group of individuals gathered outside the club.
