In the spring of 2015, a young man’s life was cut tragically short on a street in Huntsville, Alabama. Jerry Lamerio Caudle, a 22-year-old male, was found lying in the 2800 block of Holmes Avenue on the evening of May 19th, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
His death was ruled a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit.
For months, the case remained under investigation as authorities searched for those responsible for Caudle's death. The first breakthrough came nearly seven months later. In December of 2015, investigators made two arrests in connection with the murder. Shaquille Hyter and Jimmy Leslie, both 20 years old at the time and from Huntsville, were taken into custody. The arrests brought a glimmer of hope for justice for Jerry Caudle and his family, but the investigation was far from over.
The following year, the relentless work of the Major Crimes Unit led to a third arrest. In September 2016, Lakesha Dyer, a 23-year-old woman from Huntsville, was also charged with murder in the death of Jerry Caudle. With the apprehension of the three suspects, the case moved from an active investigation to the judicial process, leaving the community to await the outcomes of the charges brought against those accused of ending a young life so violently.
