In the early hours of January 28, 2023, Huntsville Police Department (HPD) officers responded to a shooting incident in the 4000 block of University Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered 26-year-old Christopher DeWayne "Nooney" Cattage deceased inside a vehicle. Investigations by the HPD Major Crimes Unit revealed that a verbal altercation between Cattage and an acquaintance, 25-year-old Omondo Jermaine Varner Jr., escalated, leading to the fatal shooting.
