In the early hours of a Monday in Huntsville, Alabama, the life of 31-year-old Jacolby Marquis Moore was tragically cut short. On December 11, 2023, police responded to a call of a shooting on Fairview Farm Way shortly before 2 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Moore suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Jacolby, known to many as 'Black,' was described as a loving and kindhearted man with a big, infectious smile who always enjoyed
joking around. Above all, he was a devoted family man who cherished his fiancée, La'Princia Miller, and his two children. An aspiring entrepreneur, he had started his own clothing line called 'Blackland.' His family and friends remember him as a selfless individual with ambitions to make a positive impact on the world.
In the days following the shooting, the Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation, which they stated was believed to be an isolated incident. Their investigation quickly led to a person of interest, and they secured a capital murder warrant for 42-year-old Travis Santell Blackburn. Authorities publicly sought information on Blackburn's whereabouts and identified him as known to drive a 2002 dark green Cadillac Escalade.
As the investigation continued, Jacolby's grieving family held a balloon release at Big Spring Park, using his favorite colors of black and blue to honor his memory. They spoke of their profound loss and their desire for answers and justice. His aunt expressed that the family would not find closure until those responsible for his death were held accountable. The family pleaded with the public for any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspected killer to be reported to the Huntsville police.
