In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 15, 2008, the life of Barrington Lopez Scroggins, a 52-year-old male, was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. At approximately 1:45 am, police responded to the 3500 block of 18th Street, SE, where they found Scroggins suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A longtime resident of the former East Gate community, his sudden and violent death sent ripples through his neighborhood and left his family grappling with a profound loss.
Barrington Scroggins was a beloved father to his two children, Donnesha Q. and Barrington L. Scroggins. His family, which included seven grandchildren, four brothers, and seven sisters, was left to mourn a man taken from them without warning. The Metropolitan Police Department quickly classified the case as a homicide and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Detectives from the Homicide Branch were assigned to the case, beginning the arduous process of piecing together the events that led to Scroggins's death.
In the years that have passed since that fatal night, the investigation into Barrington Scroggins's murder has remained open.
