On February 9, 2016, 40-year-old Gerald Westry was fatally shot while working his managerial shift at the Family Dollar store on Springhill Avenue near Ann Street in Mobile, Alabama. The incident occurred around 6:55 p.m., with reports indicating that Westry was inside the store when he was shot multiple times. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
