Edward McGrath Morris, a 52-year-old veteran of the Mobile Police Department, lost his life in the line of duty on March 31, 1901. He was shot and wounded while attempting to arrest two escaped convicts in a rail yard on the south side of Mobile. During the confrontation, Morris and his partner, Patrolman John Bressingham, were both shot by one of the escapees.
