In the late hours of Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, a dispute in the parking lot of University Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 42-year-old Robert Lamar McMillan. A male, McMillan had reportedly gone to the hospital to check on another individual who had been a victim in a separate shooting incident earlier that day. While there, an argument broke out with several people in the parking area.
The verbal confrontation quickly escalated to deadly violence.
A gunman emerged from a vehicle and fired multiple shots at McMillan, inflicting fatal wounds. The assailant then fled the scene, leaving McMillan to succumb to his injuries. The sudden and brutal nature of the act sent ripples of shock and grief through the community.
The Mobile Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to identify 22-year-old Aljan Grayson as the primary suspect in the shooting. In a turn of events, Grayson was already in custody on unrelated drug charges following a police raid on a residence the month prior to being officially charged with McMillan's murder.
Further investigation into Grayson’s background revealed a troubled history with the law. At the age of 16, he had been charged in the 2016 killing of a 15-year-old. He later pleaded guilty to manslaughter in that case and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
