In the late hours of a Wednesday evening in Mobile, Alabama, the sound of gunfire shattered the night at the Warren Inn Apartments on Airport Boulevard. On March 23, 2016, officers were dispatched to the scene around 10:51 p.m. following reports of shots being fired. While on their way, additional calls came in, painting a more grim picture: a male was down. Upon arrival, they found 21-year-old Darius Mose at the edge of a breezeway, suffering from what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
Mobile Fire-Rescue personnel responded but were unable to save him, and Mose was pronounced deceased at the scene.
For years, the case of Darius Mose's death remained unsolved, a painful open wound for his family and the community. The Mobile Police Department's Homicide Detectives initiated an investigation into the possible motives behind the shooting, but no immediate arrests were made. The quest for justice seemed to have stalled, leaving a void of unanswered questions.
However, the relentless work of investigators eventually bore fruit nearly seven years later. In what had become a cold case, a breakthrough led authorities across the country to Beaumont, California. On January 30, 2023, 39-year-old Christopher R. Hodoh was arrested and charged with the murder of Darius Mose. Following a thorough investigation, the information gathered was presented to the Mobile County District Attorney's Office, resulting in an indictment against Hodoh. He was slated to be extradited from California back to Alabama to face the murder charge, bringing a long-awaited sense of progress in the pursuit of justice for Darius Mose.
