In the early hours of a Wednesday morning in Mobile, Alabama, a dispute turned fatal, claiming the life of 19-year-old Tavaris Pettway. The young man, a graduate of Baker High School's class of 2015, was inside an apartment at the Tilman's Park Apartments on Calhoun Road on April 13, 2016, when the altercation occurred. Just before 1 a.m., police were called to the scene for a report of a person shot.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Tavaris Pettway suffering from a gunshot wound to the
face. Emergency responders from Mobile Fire-Rescue transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he later died. The incident, which authorities described as stemming from a domestic dispute, cut short the life of a young man who had just graduated high school the previous year.
The investigation quickly pointed towards a suspect, 29-year-old Coriyon Kenny. In a turn of events, less than 24 hours after the shooting, Kenny surrendered to authorities at the Mobile County Metro Jail on the same day of the incident. He was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of murder in connection with the death of Tavaris Pettway.
