On January 1, 2025, Lazarus "Larry" Tanksley-Simpkins, a 30-year-old African American man from Mobile, Alabama, was fatally shot. The incident occurred at his residence on St. Stephens Road in Prichard, Alabama. Following the shooting, a woman, later identified as his ex-wife, Genesis P. Tanksley, transported his body to a local hospital using her personal vehicle, a silver Lexus SUV. Hospital staff reported the incident to authorities around 1:00 a.m.
