In the Trinity Gardens neighborhood of Mobile, Alabama, on the evening of March 15, 2016, a life was tragically cut short. Carenzo Rogers, an 18-year-old Black male, was discovered lying in a vacant lot at the intersection of Butler Street and Warsaw Avenue. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Mobile Fire-Rescue personnel.
His death marked the tenth homicide in the city for that year.
In the wake of this violence, family and friends of the young man gathered to mourn their loss. The grief of the community was compounded when, during a vigil held in his memory, another shooting occurred in the vicinity, starkly highlighting the ongoing issue of gun violence in the area. The incident underscored the sorrow and danger that had touched their lives so profoundly.
Despite the public nature of the tragedy and the appeals for information from the Mobile Police Department, the case grew cold. As of late 2016, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting death of Carenzo Rogers. The investigation into who was responsible for ending the young man's life remains open, with authorities continuing to seek any information that might lead to a resolution and bring a measure of peace to his grieving family and community.
