Less than 24 hours after the discovery of the body, on the morning of February 1, 2019, the Mobile Police Department made an arrest. Forty-one-year-old Frederick Alexander was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the murder of John Betancourt. In addition to the murder charge, Alexander also faced a charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
