In the late afternoon of January 31, 2019, the quiet of a Mobile, Alabama, Days Inn parking lot was shattered by the sound of a gunshot. When police arrived at the scene on Inn Road, they discovered the body of 36-year-old John Betancourt. A white male, Betancourt was pronounced dead at the scene, the victim of a fatal gunshot wound. His death marked the fifth homicide in the city for that year.
