In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 30, 2023, tragedy struck in the Toulminville community of Mobile, Alabama. Responding to a call of a shooting at approximately 4:13 a.m., Mobile Police officers arrived at the 2000 block of DeKruif Court to a grim scene. There, they discovered 43-year-old Lamount Fagan, a male victim who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He was found inside a car and pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident prompted a homicide investigation by the Mobile Police Department.
The violent death of Lamount Fagan caused distress within the community, with a city council member expressing heartbreak over the recurring gun violence in the city and calling for a concrete plan to address these issues. In the initial stages of the investigation, the Mobile Police Department did not release many details to protect the integrity of the case and had not publicly named any suspects. They appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest.
After weeks of investigation, a breakthrough was made in the case. On Thursday, February 22, 2024, Mobile Police Department detectives identified two individuals as the subjects involved in the homicide. Authorities arrested 32-year-old Carman Johnson and 24-year-old Cameron Johnson. Both individuals were subsequently charged with murder, attempted murder, and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the death of Lamount Fagan.
