Tramell Williams, 19, a Black male from Mobile, Alabama, was shot on the night of May 17, 2024, in a case that investigators said began at an apartment complex and ended with a desperate drive across town. Late that evening, Mobile police were called to the Steak N Shake at 3125 Government Boulevard after reports that two people had been shot; officers found two wounded men inside a gray Mercedes parked near a neighboring business, the vehicle marked by multiple bullet holes.
Both were rushed to the hospital, but Williams did not survive.
As detectives worked backward from the parking lot where the car was found, they determined the gunfire had happened earlier at 601 Village Green Drive East. In the first hours after the shooting, police said little beyond the locations and the fact that the investigation was active, leaving the public with only the stark outline of the night: a burst of violence at Village Green, a wounded carload, and a final stop under the bright lights of a closed restaurant lot.
Weeks later, investigators identified a suspect. Police announced that Alonzo Collier-Newsome, 20, had been developed as a subject in the case and was located and arrested on July 2, 2024, then taken to the Mobile Metro Jail. Booking information circulating publicly listed allegations that included murder, attempted murder, and discharging a gun into an occupied or unoccupied building or vehicle. Public reporting in the sources reviewed did not describe a motive, did not name the second shooting victim, and did not provide court-case details such as an indictment, trial date, or conviction.
