In the quiet evening of Sunday, May 26, 2024, a grim discovery was made in an abandoned home on the 1800 block of Duncan Street in Mobile, Alabama. Responding to a call around 8:30 p.m., police officers entered the derelict house to find the body of a young man. The deceased, a 21-year-old male, was later identified as Jermont Lamar. At the time he was found, he had no identification on him.
Initially, the circumstances surrounding his death were unclear, but an autopsy would soon shed
light on the tragic event. The medical examiner determined that Jermont Lamar had died from a fatal gunshot wound, turning the case into a homicide investigation. The Mobile Police Department began to piece together the events that led to his death, appealing to the public for any information that could help solve the case.
The investigation led to a significant breakthrough with the arrest of 20-year-old Dennis Lamar. He was taken into custody and charged with felony murder in connection with Jermont's death. Authorities have not disclosed if the two men were related. Following his arrest, Dennis Lamar appeared for a bond hearing where the judge denied bond, citing that he was already out on bond for a separate offense at the time of the alleged murder. The district attorney's office moved to have his previous bond revoked.
