In the early morning hours of May 7, 2016, the life of 31-year-old Thaddeus Knight, a male, was tragically cut short in Mobile, Alabama. At approximately 1:55 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single gunshot in the vicinity of Peach Street and Persimmon Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Knight on the side of the road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Mobile Fire-Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene and pronounced him dead.
The initial investigation into Knight's death was handled by the Mobile Police Department's Homicide Detectives, who immediately began working to determine a motive for the shooting. As the investigation progressed, the case was presented to a grand jury.
More than three years after the fatal shooting, a significant development occurred in the case. In October 2019, Antonio Grimes stood trial for the murder of Thaddeus Knight. After a week-long trial, a Mobile County jury deliberated for less than an hour before returning a guilty verdict. The swift decision brought a long-awaited sense of justice to Knight's family and friends who were present in the courtroom throughout the proceedings. Antonio Grimes was subsequently sentenced for his role in the death of Thaddeus Knight.
