In the early evening of September 1, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at the intersection of Dauphin Island Parkway and McVay Drive North in Mobile, Alabama. When the sounds of the drive-by shooting faded, 35-year-old Quintez Pryear, a Black male, was found inside a vehicle, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. First responders arrived at the scene around 8:00 p.m. and pronounced him deceased.
The chaotic event also left another person, a 16-year-old, wounded.
The teenager was a passenger in a different vehicle when a bullet pierced the car door and struck him. His grandmother, who was driving, rushed him away from the scene to their home on Brooke Avenue before calling for help. The young man was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and ultimately survived the ordeal.
In the days following the shooting, the Mobile Police Department confirmed that they were actively investigating the death of Quintez Pryear as a homicide. By December of that year, his case was listed among the city's unsolved homicides, and a cash reward was offered for any information that could lead to an arrest. However, despite the ongoing investigation and the public appeal for assistance, there have been no publicly announced arrests or identification of any suspects in connection with the murder of Quintez Pryear. The case remains an open and unresolved chapter in the city's history of violent crime, leaving a family to grapple with the unanswered questions surrounding his sudden and violent death.
