In the fall of 2017, the life of 21-year-old Carlos Tremaine Peebles Jr., a young father from Mobile, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Thursday, October 19, 2017, a shooting incident unfolded at a Quik Pick convenience store located on St. Stephens Road. When police arrived at approximately 10:15 p.m., they discovered Peebles had been shot.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting took a significant turn when a second individual, an 18-year-old male, arrived at the same hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. It was determined that his injuries were sustained during the same event that led to Peebles' death. This second victim, identified as Henry Perryman, underwent surgery and was expected to survive.
Following his release from the hospital on Saturday, October 28, 2017, the narrative of the case shifted dramatically. Perryman, who was initially considered a second victim in the shooting, was arrested by the Mobile Police Department. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Carlos Tremaine Peebles Jr., connecting him directly to the death of the young man with whom he had shared a violent encounter just days before.
