In the autumn of 2020, the life of 22-year-old Vincent Wilson II was tragically cut short in Mobile, Alabama. On November 7th, he was found fatally stabbed multiple times at an apartment complex located on Downtowner Boulevard. The nature of his death prompted an immediate homicide investigation by local authorities.
The subsequent investigation led to the identification and arrest of a suspect, Laquinton King, a man from Pleasant Grove.
At the time of his alleged involvement in Wilson's death, King was already out on a $500,000 bond for a separate murder charge dating back to 2017 in Calhoun County, where he was accused in the fatal shooting of James Bird Jr.
Following his arrest for the murder of Vincent Wilson, King entered a plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. This plea resulted in a court order for a mental evaluation at a specialized facility to determine his fitness to stand trial. According to his attorney, King had been exhibiting signs of severe mood swings and unexplained depression.
After a period of evaluation, the Alabama Department of Mental Health determined that Laquinton King was competent to stand trial. The findings indicated that he was psychiatrically stable and prepared to face the legal proceedings. Consequently, King was transferred back to Metro Jail, where he remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear before a Mobile County judge for a mental health review, and court documents state that he will continue to receive medication.
