In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 25, 2020, the body of 39-year-old Joseph Carter, a Black male, was discovered in the backyard of a residence in the 2600 block of Wealthy Street in Mobile, Alabama. Responding to a 'person down' call at approximately 6:45 a.m., Mobile Police found Carter deceased, having sustained blunt force trauma to his body.
An investigation into the death of Joseph Carter was immediately launched by the Mobile Police Department.
Within two days of the discovery of his body, authorities had identified and apprehended five individuals in connection with the homicide. The swift progress in the case brought a sense of resolution to the initial shock of the violent discovery.
The five suspects taken into custody and charged with murder were identified as 20-year-old Jeremiah Wright, 19-year-old Marlasha Hickbottom, 17-year-old Lacey Hickbottom, 35-year-old Martha Hickbottom, and 30-year-old Lawrence Buford. Following their arrests, all five individuals were transported to the Metro Jail.
