In the afternoon of August 15, 2022, Eldred Bogan, a 51-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally shot in Mobile, Alabama. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight on Pecan Street, was captured on video.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of a suspect, Billy Norwood. Following his arrest, Norwood stood trial for the murder of Bogan in November 2024. During the trial, the video evidence of the shooting was presented to the jury.
After a deliberation of only one hour, the jury returned a unanimous verdict, convicting Norwood of the intentional killing of Eldred Bogan.
On January 16, 2025, Billy Norwood was sentenced for the murder. Due to the conviction and his prior felony offenses, Norwood faced a sentence of life in prison or life without the possibility of parole. The judge handed down the sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Mobile County District Attorney stated that Norwood murdered Bogan in broad daylight and showed no remorse for his actions.
