On a late summer day in Mobile, Alabama, the life of 27-year-old Khiry Rowe, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On September 3, 2016, at the Azalea Pointe Apartments where he worked as a maintenance man, a verbal dispute escalated into fatal violence. Rowe was shot multiple times, sustaining wounds to his abdomen, leg, and back. Despite being rushed to the hospital and undergoing medical care, he succumbed to his injuries over the weekend.
The community was left shaken, as Rowe's death marked the third homicide at the apartment complex that year, leading to widespread safety concerns among residents.
The Mobile Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the arrest of 24-year-old Donyell Bradford, who was taken into custody and charged with murder. Authorities reported that the shooting stemmed from the argument between Bradford and Rowe. As the investigation continued, a second suspect was identified and apprehended. Hollis Hubbard, 19 years old at the time, was also arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, both men faced charges for their involvement in Khiry Rowe's death. Donyell Bradford was prosecuted on the murder charge. Hollis Hubbard ultimately entered a blind plea to charges of attempted murder and murder, thereby admitting his role in the shooting that led to Rowe's death.
