On the evening of March 14, 2023, tragedy struck in Mobile, Alabama, when Cedric Lowayne Lynch Jr., a 27-year-old Black male, was found shot to death inside his vehicle. The incident occurred around 9:16 p.m. in the 2000 block of Northwest Drive. When Mobile Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Lynch suffering from a fatal gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the death of the man affectionately known as 'Manny Man' led
authorities to identify 18-year-old Lacedrick Davis as the primary suspect. According to court documents, the events leading up to the shooting were harrowing. Davis allegedly went to the home of Lynch's girlfriend, where he concealed himself in the laundry room before ambushing Lynch in his car. The entire traumatic event was witnessed by Lynch's girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child. Further investigation revealed that months prior to the killing, Davis had allegedly threatened the lives of both Lynch and his mother.
Following the issuance of warrants for his arrest on charges of murder, first-degree burglary, and shooting into an occupied vehicle, Davis went on the run. His time as a fugitive came to an end after several months when he was apprehended in Texas. On June 20, 2023, he was extradited back to Mobile and booked into the Mobile County Metro Jail. Citing the serious nature of the charges and the potential danger he posed to the community, the Mobile County District Attorney's Office successfully filed a motion under Aniah's Law to have Davis held without bond until his trial. A judge granted the motion, ensuring he would remain in custody. The family of Cedric Lynch, while grieving their profound loss, expressed relief at the capture of the suspect and have prepared themselves for the upcoming legal proceedings, hopeful that justice will be served for the beloved son, brother, and father.
