On the evening of March 26, 2024, a young man’s life was cut short in Mobile, Alabama. Faisal Alrakan, a 20-year-old male, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds on the 1000 block of Oakland Drive at approximately 9:33 p.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed Mobile Police Department detectives toward a suspect.
The following day, on March 27, 2024, authorities arrested 18-year-old Jeremy Thigpin Jr. in connection with the fatal shooting. Thigpin, who was a student at Davidson High School, was subsequently charged with felony murder and distribution of marijuana. According to court documents, it is alleged that Thigpin had skipped school the day after the incident and deleted an Instagram account.
Further details emerged suggesting that the motive for the shooting was a robbery. It was reported that Alrakan was allegedly robbed of marijuana at the time of the incident and that Thigpin had previously distributed marijuana to him. Following his arrest, Thigpin was granted a bond of $150,000 for the murder charge and $15,000 for the distribution charge. The conditions of his potential release on bond include house arrest with ankle monitoring and a curfew. The investigation into the death of Faisal Alrakan remains ongoing.
