On June 12, 2016, 27-year-old Jermaine Tarver of Lowndesboro, Alabama, was fatally shot in the Selmont community of Selma. The incident occurred while Tarver was playing cards with others at a residence on Towns Circle. An altercation arose when 23-year-old Vadarius Hall made comments about Tarver's gold teeth, leading to a dispute. As Tarver was leaving, Hall retrieved a firearm and shot him multiple times.
