On June 11, 2015, 51-year-old Charles Fitzgerald Simpson was found deceased on a sidewalk near the intersection of Mechanic Street and Alabama Avenue in Selma, Alabama. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest from a small-caliber weapon and was discovered by a passerby around 5:45 a.m. At the time, no arrests had been made in connection with his death.
