On February 4, 2021, 56-year-old Christopher Harrell, a well-respected assistant basketball coach at Dallas County High School in Selma, Alabama, was fatally shot during an attempted robbery. Harrell had stopped at Lannie's BBQ on Medical Center Parkway to pick up dinner when he was approached by at least one suspect upon returning to his vehicle. The encounter resulted in Harrell being shot in the head, marking Selma's first homicide of 2021.
