On April 10, 2021, 17-year-old Amari Ry'shun Bonner of Selma, Alabama, was fatally shot during a confrontation that escalated into a shootout. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in the 800 block of First Avenue near the Snack Food Mart. Bonner, a rear-seat passenger in a vehicle, was struck in the lower back and succumbed to his injuries at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
