On January 5, 2022, Charles Steele, a 66-year-old resident of Selma, Alabama, was found deceased with a gunshot wound to the head at the intersection of Broad Street and Third Avenue. This incident marked Selma's first homicide of the year. Initial reports indicated that no arrests had been made as the Selma Police Department commenced their investigation.
