On October 18, 2024, 32-year-old Devante Tashon Hall of Birmingham, Alabama, was fatally shot during a homecoming tailgate event at Southside High School in Selma. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the school's parking lot, where Hall and another individual engaged in a verbal altercation.
