On April 11, 2022, 21-year-old Anthony Hayes-Patterson was fatally shot at the intersection of First Avenue and Kayser Street in Selma, Alabama. This incident marked the city's fourth homicide of the year.
Following an investigation, the Selma Police Department arrested two teenage suspects on May 9, 2022. Sixteen-year-old Travarion McNeil and 19-year-old Antonio Hardy were charged with Patterson's murder and held in the Dallas County Jail under a $1.5 million bond.
