In the early morning hours of March 2, 2023, the city of Selma, Alabama, was rocked by a violent act that claimed the life of 20-year-old Quintaris Sharod Perkins. A male, Perkins was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound, seated in the driver's seat of his silver Chevrolet at the intersection of Division Street and Burgundy Avenue. The Selma Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area around 8:30 a.m.
and found Perkins, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Perkins' death was immediately launched as a homicide, with Selma police urging anyone with information to come forward. As the investigation progressed without immediate arrests, Central Alabama Crimestoppers offered a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the capture of the person or persons responsible for this tragic event. The case drew further attention when the Governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey, announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator highlighting the ongoing efforts to bring justice for Perkins and his family.
Despite the passage of time and the offer of rewards, the case of who killed Quintaris Perkins remains unsolved, with no suspects publicly identified or arrested. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life cut short, with funeral services held on March 11, 2023, at the House of Prayer Christian Church.
