In the early morning hours of February 16, 2025, a Valentine's Day weekend was tragically cut short for Terry Wayne Harris, a 45-year-old man, in Selma, Alabama. The fatal incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Race Street at a local entertainment establishment.
When Selma Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Harris had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The violence that ended his life was part of a troubling string of events in the city over that weekend.
The Selma Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division moved swiftly in their investigation. By the evening of February 16, their efforts led to the arrest of 34-year-old DShontreil Tarver. Tarver was subsequently charged with murder in connection with the shooting of Terry Wayne Harris. Following his arrest, Tarver was held without bond at the Perry Detention Center, awaiting a hearing.
Funeral services for Terry Wayne Harris Sr. were scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Selma Community Bible Church, with his burial to follow in Little Zion Cemetery in Jones, Alabama.
