On January 8, 2019, 36-year-old Allah G. Bishop of Sprott, Alabama, was fatally shot in Selma. The incident occurred at the GWC Homes housing project on the 400 block of Martin Luther King Street. Upon arrival, Selma police officers discovered a burning vehicle and Bishop lying wounded in front of an apartment. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
