On August 27, 2016, 32-year-old Antonio "Tony" Hinkle was fatally shot during the "Love Thy Neighbor" event in Brighton, Alabama. The community gathering, intended to promote unity and peace, turned tragic when gunfire erupted, resulting in Hinkle's death and injuries to several others. Witnesses recounted that Hinkle, a Navy veteran and father of three, heroically pushed children out of harm's way during the chaos, sacrificing his life to protect them.
