In the summer of 2021, a young man's life was cut short within the walls of a state correctional facility. Jason Matthew Kirkland, a 27-year-old male, died on July 5, 2021, while an inmate at the Donaldson Correctional Facility located near Bessemer, Alabama. At the time of his death, he was serving a 15-year sentence for nonviolent offenses.
