On September 10, 2018, 62-year-old Jack Eugene Blanks of Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally shot in the Shannon community. Around 2:20 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 1500 block of Doss Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered Blanks deceased from gunshot wounds and another man injured.
