On a late summer afternoon in Bessemer, Alabama, a dispute escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 62-year-old Jack Eugene Blanks. The male victim was shot and killed on Monday, September 10, 2018, during a confrontation at a home in the Shannon community.
That afternoon, Blanks, accompanied by another man and a woman, arrived at a residence on Doss Drive. An argument broke out between the visitors and the homeowner, 35-year-old Jason Kevin Henderson.
The verbal altercation quickly turned violent when Henderson produced a firearm and shot both Blanks and the other man.
When Jefferson County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 2:20 p.m., they found Blanks deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The second man had also been shot and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. The woman who had been with Blanks and the other man fled the scene after the shooting but was later located and questioned by detectives. Henderson remained at his home and was taken into custody for questioning.
Following an investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the case was presented to the District Attorney's Office. On September 12, 2018, arrest warrants were issued for Jason Kevin Henderson. He was charged with the murder of Jack Eugene Blanks and the attempted murder of the second man. Henderson was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with his bond set at $750,000.
