On June 8, 2024, 39-year-old Deandre Roney was fatally stabbed at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama. Serving a sentence for robbery and attempted murder from a 2008 conviction, Roney was nearing his scheduled release date in November 2024. Prior to the incident, he had expressed concerns to prison officials about threats from another inmate, fearing for his safety.
