On October 14, 2016, at approximately 3:26 a.m., Troy Police Department officers responded to a shooting incident in the 300 block of Jane Road in Troy, Alabama. Upon arrival, they discovered 20-year-old Michael Derek Kennedy lying near the front door of a residence, deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Kennedy, a sophomore business major at Troy University and a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, was originally from Niceville, Florida.
