In the fading daylight of a Wednesday evening in Montgomery, Alabama, a sense of unease settled over the Virginia Meadows apartment complex. On November 16, 2016, the relative quiet was shattered by the sound of gunfire, a tragic but not entirely unfamiliar sound in the neighborhood. When police responded to the scene in the 4300 block of Virginia Meadows Drive, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
