On the night of April 26, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama, a young Black man's life was cut short by gunfire. Donta Demorris Russell, 20 years old, was driving his Crown Victoria along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when shots rang out around 10:16 p.m. Responding to reports of a possible domestic disturbance and gunfire, deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office arrived to a grim scene.
