In the late afternoon of August 26, 2023, a dispute between two men in the Poarch community near Atmore, Alabama, escalated into a fatal shooting, claiming the life of 33-year-old Deangelo Bailey. The incident, which unfolded around 5:15 p.m., allegedly stemmed from a disagreement over a dog. Bailey had reportedly hired 65-year-old Wendell Farrell White to train his dog and became upset with the services provided.
An argument ensued between the two men, who lived in neighboring mobile home parks.
During the heated exchange, White allegedly pulled out a handgun. In an attempt to flee the escalating violence, Bailey ran to a nearby mobile home. White pursued him and, as Bailey stood in the doorway of the neighbor's residence, White is accused of firing multiple shots, fatally wounding the younger man. Although both men had Atmore addresses, the shooting occurred in the Quarry Village Mobile Home Park, where White resided, which is located more than 10 miles north of the city limits.
Following the incident, law enforcement from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation. Their findings led to the arrest of Wendell Farrell White, who was subsequently charged with murder. At the time of the shooting, White was reportedly out on bond for a drug possession charge from June of the same year. He was taken into custody and held at the Escambia County Detention Center without bond.
