On September 24, 2019, Roderick Lynn "Thumper" Watkins Jr., a 23-year-old African American man from Atmore, Alabama, was fatally shot in an ambush-style attack outside his residence on Jimbos Road. Watkins had just returned home from work at Swift Lumber Co. around 2:30 a.m. when he was targeted.
