In the early morning hours of April 25, 2020, the life of 43-year-old Desmond Deshun Dirden was tragically cut short in Atmore, Alabama. Police responded to a 911 call around 1:24 a.m. regarding an assault at the Patterson Street Apartments. Upon arrival, they discovered Dirden's body on a sidewalk within the complex. He had sustained both a gunshot and a stab wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene before emergency medical personnel could render aid.
The Atmore Police Department
immediately launched an extensive investigation into the homicide, with detectives working diligently to piece together the events that led to Dirden's violent death. Their persistent and methodical work over the following weeks culminated in the identification of a suspect.
On June 4, 2020, investigators arrested 38-year-old Antonio Albert Crenshaw, an Atmore resident, and charged him with Dirden's murder. The arrest was made following a traffic stop for a suspected DUI. In addition to the murder charge, Crenshaw also faced charges of being a violent felon in possession of a handgun and second-degree theft of property. He was subsequently booked into the Escambia County Detention Center. While an arrest has been made, authorities did not publicly disclose a motive for the crime.
