On the night of April 1, 2016, in Atmore, Alabama, 45-year-old Waylin Daryl Mothershed was fatally shot following an argument. Deputies from the Escambia County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Ross Road at approximately 11:25 p.m., where they discovered Mothershed deceased from a gunshot wound. Nearby, they found 49-year-old Jonathan Blake Rager of Jackson, Alabama, seated on the ground beside the victim, with a firearm in close proximity.
