On January 13, 2024, 39-year-old Okeema McCants of Atmore, Alabama, was fatally shot after attempting to intervene in a street altercation. Around 10:55 a.m., McCants was driving along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue near Bragg Street when he noticed a physical fight among a group of males.
