In the early hours of September 12, 2017, a grim discovery was made in a residence on Gulfwood Drive East in Mobile, Alabama. Responding to a call at approximately 12:26 a.m., police entered the home to find two men, 31-year-old Reginald Crenshaw Jr. and 28-year-old Brandon Cadwell, had been shot to death. The violent end to their lives marked the beginning of a years-long investigation to bring those responsible to justice. Crenshaw Jr. was notably the son of Mobile County School Board member Reginald Crenshaw Sr.
The investigation into the double homicide led to a series of arrests over the following years. The first suspect, Larry Jackson, was taken into custody just days after the crime. As the case progressed and was presented to a grand jury, both Jackson and another individual, Treshun Hughes, were indicted on capital murder charges. On December 20, 2018, Hughes was located and arrested, and Jackson turned himself in to the Metro Jail on the same day.
More than two years after the murders, a third suspect was identified and apprehended. On March 10, 2020, police arrested 24-year-old Joshua Williams III. He was subsequently charged with four counts of capital murder in connection with the deaths of Crenshaw and Cadwell. The charges against Williams specified murder during a robbery, burglary, shooting into a dwelling, and the murder of two or more persons. According to court records, the murders occurred during a robbery.
