On February 12, 2017, 25-year-old Marion Earl Awudu was fatally shot in Mobile, Alabama. The incident occurred during a drive-by shooting, prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities.

Within 48 hours of the shooting, the Prichard Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Kendrick Cordell Jones, born August 8, 1994, identifying him as the primary suspect in Awudu's murder. Jones was also wanted in connection with several other felonies at the time.
