In the spring of 2018, the life of 37-year-old Nathaniel E. Gibson, a Black/African American male from Opelika, Alabama, was tragically cut short. On the evening of March 30th, at approximately 8:30 PM, the Opelika Police Department received a distressing 911 call about a gunshot victim on Chester Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Gibson suffering from a severe gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Nathaniel Gibson succumbed to his injuries the following morning, on March 31, 2018.
The Opelika Police Department promptly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect in April of 2018. Authorities issued a warning that the individual was to be considered armed and dangerous, sparking a manhunt that would last for ten months. The search for the person allegedly responsible for Gibson's death concluded in January 2019 with the successful apprehension of the suspect. Following the arrest, the individual was formally charged with the murder of Nathaniel Gibson, bringing a significant development to a case that had been open for nearly a year.
Nathaniel Gibson was a resident of Opelika and a cherished member of his family. He is survived by his mother, a son, and his siblings. His death left a void in the lives of his loved ones, including his significant other and a close friend. Funeral services were held in early April 2018 to honor his memory.
